Work Based Learning Opportunities

Cooperative Education (Co-op)

Earn high school credits while on the job. Students will have an opportunity to apply what they are learning in their Applied Tech/Career & Technical Education (CTE) class while at a work location. Eligible applicants, who obtain part-time paid employment related to their CTE course, can earn .5 high school credits per semester. Students learn employability skills and apply knowledge acquired in their related CTE class and may be eligible for early release or late arrival to school with a co-op as part of his/her schedule. Students are required to average 10 hours of work per week for every hour of CO-OP. The student is responsible for turning in a time sheet every two weeks to the CO-OP Coordinator. The student must pass their related class to obtain a grade.

Internships

Experience a career first hand with an internship. Intern Livingston works with local area businesses to provide internship opportunities for high school and post-secondary students. Intern Livingston’s role is to communicate internships available for students in Livingston County through the intern Livingston website and to contact schools when opportunities become available. Businesses are responsible for selecting the intern and the coordination of his/her work responsibilities. Students contact the businesses directly to set up interviews. Internships will be project based or for an indefinite or definite period of time. Most internships are paid. Visit www.internlivingston.org for more information and a list of internships.

Students participating in internships may also earn high school graduation credits through co-op.
